1. mu-ray asked: Dear Veghead,

I recently became vegan and I wanted to ask you about how to politely refuse non-vegan food from people without making a fuse about my eating habits.
For example, refusing a piece of someone's birthday cake is kind of rude, so how would I do this politely without causing a fuss.
Thanks and I love your blog!

Ah, this is something I haven’t exactly mastered yet, myself. I’ve come to find people are more fussy when I refuse something without giving a reason. If I don’t want to go into lots of detail I’ll just smile and politely say, “No thanks, I’m trying to avoid dairy (or whatever)”

Regardless though, refusing a piece of cake is not as rude as we all think it will be. I’ve come to learn (especially at a party where people are busy running around hosting) they wont really care that much.

Anyone have any tips for mu-ray?
